Fintiri warned against appointing those that have corruption case with EFCC as Vice Chancellor of ADSU, Mubi

Gov. Fintiri of Adamawa state has been urged not to consider former sacked Vice chancellor of Adamawa state University, Mubi, Prof. Joshua Shall and the former sacked Bursar, Kumthy Ezra Anjili for any appointment in the University pending the determination of the corruption case before Federal High court in Yola.

A civil society group, Coalition against Financial Crimes and Injustice (CFCI), gave the advice yesterday at a press briefing in Yola.

According to the chairman of the group, Alhaji Mohammed Dogo, by appointing people facing allegations of corruption, the image of the Fintiri administration as being intolerant of corruption by his supporters would be dented.

He alleged that the former VC and the Bursar was a nemesis to the progress and development of state University when he was the Vice Chancellor for a year.

He, therefore, prayed that Fintiri shouldn’t consider nominating the former VC as Vice Chancellor of the University.

“We are giving this advice because our organization believes in the administration of Fintiri who promise to fight corruption, corrupt practices and entrenching truth, honesty and integrity. We advise that the governor should appoint the next Vice Chancellor of the university in a manner that will ensure they do not become liabilities to the government or dent his image,” Dogo said.

He implored the Governor to be circumspect in appointing Messrs Shall and Kumthy Anjili as principal office of the university so as not to appear insensitive to the people and counter-productive in the eyes of Adamawa residents.

“By allowing them to acquire afresh political power from the back door through any appointments,” Dogo said may not augur well for the people of Adamawa state.

He further declared that appointing the former ADSU VC and the Bursar could hurt Fintiri fresh air agenda in view of the pending corruption case brought against them by the EFCC.

The Finder recalls that the EFCC slammed three count charges against the trio of Professor Shall David Joshua, a former Vice Chancellor of the state university, Mr. Kumthi Ezra Anjili, a suspended Bursar of the university and, lastly, Mr. Friday Pwanahomo, a staff of the Bursary Department of the same university.

The three count charges against the defendants were:

  1. That you Shall David Joshua, Kumti Ezra Anjili and Philip Pwanahomo, sometime in December, 2014, at Mubi, Adamawa State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with intent to defraud did agree amongst yourselves to commit a felony, to wit, stealing money from the coffers of Adamawa State University, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 516 Criminal Code Act.
  2. That you Shall David Joshua, Kumthi Ezra Anjili and Philip Pwanahomo, sometime in December, 2014, at Mubi, Adamawa State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud did steal the sum of twenty four million, nine hundred and seventy three thousand, five hundred and thirteen Naira Eight Kobo only (N24, 973, 513.08) from the coffers of Adamawa State University by making fraudulent withdrawals from Zenith Bank Account Number 1010991218 contrary to and punishable under section 383 (1) and 390 Criminal Code Act respectively.
  3. That you Kumthi Ezra Anjili, sometime in the month of November, 2014, at Yola, Adamawa State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud Adamawa State University, to the tune of Seventy two million one hundred and thirty Eight thousand eight Naira (N72, 138, 008.00) did severally forge the signature of one Dr. Moses Zira Zaruwa, a co-signatory on Zenith Bank counter cheques with Account Number 1010991218, contrary to and punishable under the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Act 2006 respectively.
