Deposed Kano emir, Sanusi Ii, pays thank-you visit on Engineer Sule
The deposed Emir of Kano, HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II, who regained freedom from banishment, visited the Nasarawa State Government House, to show appreciation to the Governor of the state Engineer Abdullahi Sule, traditional rulers and people of the state, for hosting him.
The deposed emir visited the Lafia Government House on Friday, accompanied by the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
HRH Sanusi II expressed gratitude to the government and people of Nasarawa State, especially traditional rulers, for not only accepting to host him but according him befitting reception.
He recounted his experience in Loko and Awe, likening his sojourn to the experience of his late grandfather, HRH Muhammadu Sanusi I, who after his deposition, was banished to Azare, in Bauchi State, where he spent the rest of his life.
He particularly thanked the Governor, Emirs of Lafia, Keffi and Nasarawa, for their collective effort to host and accommodate him.
HRH Sanusi II said he was at the Government House to bid farewell, as well as show appreciation over the hospitality shown to him during his stay in Nasarawa State.
“These are experiences that our families and well-wishers will hardly forget.
“We are here to show appreciation and to assure you that this mutual love will remain evergreen as we continue to sustain and nurture this relationship,” he stated.
He equally expressed appreciation to Governor El-Rufai, for standing with him throughout his travails.
Responding, Engineer Sule, described the deposed emir’s short stay in the state as historical, while expressing joy for him, his family and well-wishers over his release from detention.
The Governor, who described HRH Sanusi II as a global citizen, wished him well in his further endeavours.
“Nasarawa is now another Azare. It’s our wish that this relationship will be cherished and nurtured,” he said.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the visit, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, said they were at the Government House to bid farewell to Engineer Sule.
“I came to visit him today and it turned out that he is leaving today because the court has ordered his release from banishment or detention or whatever and declared it unconstitutional.
“We came to thank the Governor for hosting him and all the traditional rulers of Nasarawa State that have shown him so much love and affection.
“And we are on our way to Abuja so His Highness will go to Lagos which is his first place of residence for the time being,” El-Rufai said.
It would be recalled that after he was deposed as Emir of Kano by the Kano State Government, HRH Sanusi II was flown to Abuja from where he was driven to Loko. He spent some few hours in Loko before he was flown in a helicopter to Lafia, on his way to Awe, headquarters of Awe Local Government area, where he spent some few days before a Federal High Court in Abuja, ordered his release from banishment.
