Provost hails Fintiri as COE Hong matriculates 305 students
Adamawa state College of Education (COE) Hong affiliated to Ahmadu Bello University has matriculated 305 students into various degree programmes of the college for 2019/2020 academic session making it the third times the college admitted students into its degree programmes.
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony which took place in the college at the yesterday, the provost of the college prof. Johnson Pongri said this year’s matriculation is coming at a very critical moment of a significant breakthrough in his efforts of repositioning the college for academic excellence.
He further explained that, the institution have so far secured full accreditation status for degree programmes run by the college in affiliation with Ahmadu Bello university, Zaria as well as full accreditation for the NCE programmes.
He said the college under his watch continued to witness impressive performances and will graduated the first set of degree students.
The Provost stated that so far this school has not witnessed cases of cultism and such he ascribed the success to good parental breeding and advised the new students to maintain the tempo.
Professor Pongri, thanked Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s led administration for his tremendous support to the institution. He equally thanked the management of ABU for finding them worthy of collaboration and affiliation. However, the Provost pointed out that the major challenged of the undergraduate programme are: inadequate staffing such as PhD lecturers, landscaping, laboratories, road network; e-library, ICT facilities and books. Therefore, he appealed to the government to come to their aid.
Professor Pongri informed the gathering that the college intends to add six more courses which hopeful will commence in 2020/21 session namely: Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Integrated Science; Arabic and Physical and Health Education. Responding on behalf of the students, Comrade Yakubu Umar Yerima and Sister Ruth John both thanked the management of ABU for finding them worthy of admission into the institution and promised to abide by all the rules and regulations of the university.
Also speaking, the acting vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Professor D. A. Ameh, who was represented by the Dean Faculty of Education, Professor Y. K. Kajuru, stated that “matriculations ceremonies are always a time for joy for those who successful pass through the screening procedures of any institutions.
It’s also marked the closure of all admissions exercise to any particular academic session.” Reminding them to abide by the rules and regulations of the university, the Acting VC said “the oaths which you have just taken initiate you to the body of university community. By this process, you have been formally accepted into the institution and you are to be guided by all the university rules and regulations.”
Professor Kajuru advised the students to pursue their education with high level of social responsibility. “Your main purpose of coming to the university is to acquire knowledge and skills that will prepare you for a useful life and good citizens; it is for this reason that I advised you to shun social vices such as examination malpractices, cultism, drug abuse; indecent dressing and all forms of antisocial behavior. You should also refrain from associating with unapproved groups,” he warned.
He urged the students to dedicate themselves to their studies as the goal of ABU is to produce students with great capacity not only for receiving knowledge but also creating knowledge.
