Terrorists ambush troops in Borno, leaving some soldiers, civilians missing.

A recent ambush by Boko Haram terrorists in Baga, on the outskirts of Lake Chad, left an unknown number of Nigerian security men missing.

According to military personnel who talked to press men under anonymity, soldiers were attacked while attempting to retrieve the bodies of 40 people who had been slaughtered by the militants. Several soldiers were killed in the ensuing gunfight.

Our men went to look for the bodies of the citizens who had been slaughtered by the terrorists, but we ventured too far, and the terrorists ambushed us. Both citizens and members of the military forces made up the squad.

They killed a few of our men during the gunfight. Since the dead bodies have not yet been gathered and some soldiers are still returning to base, we are unable to determine the exact number of deaths,” the military source stated.

About fifty people went to retrieve the bodies of those slain yesterday, according to another civilian source in Baga, but only one person has returned as of yet.

According to the source, among the 50 men are local hunters, members of the civilian joint task force, and a few other young males.

Before the terrorists attacked them, some fifty villagers banded together and went out to retrieve the bodies of the villagers who had been murdered by Boko Haram.

Since one of them has returned to the village, we are still waiting for the others, so we are unsure of the exact number of people they killed.

“The civilians include civilian joint task force members, hunters, and vigilantes, but I don’t know the military casualty; as such, I cannot talk about it,” the local source stated.

Following an attack in Baga that claimed the lives of forty locals, this occurrence happened on Tuesday.

Six persons were killed in an attack in Gwoza, five of whom are reportedly hunters, civilian joint task force members, and repentant insurgents.
